West Valley Housing Authority Sign in Front of Building

Our agency proudly serves the citizens of Polk County by providing safe, decent, and affordable housing for those in need; while encouraging their progress toward self-sufficiency.

The West Valley Housing Authority provides assistance to nearly 1,100 households through our administration of:

The Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Program (also known as Section 8 program) which allows us to help up to 703 households by providing housing assistance payments, to private landlords, on behalf of the household in order to make the rent more affordable. This is made possible with funds distributed to us by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

The Public Housing Program which allows us to offer our 373 rental units to low income families and / or individuals who may be elderly or disabled at rents that are affordable. This is made possible with operating subsidies provided to us by the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

Our Affordable Housing Program consisting of 8 rental units, we own and operate, that we provide as affordable housing for households here in Polk County. This is made possible with our responsibility, commitment, and ability to maintain the rents well below those of similar, privately- owned, units on the market.

Our programs infuse over $7 Million dollars into the local economy - directly through our payments to local landlords, vendors, contractors and wages paid to employees; and, indirectly, by our services allowing our clients to retain more discretionary income which they are likely to spend at local stores or service businesses.

We firmly believe in the concept of safe, decent, and affordable housing being the stable foundation from which individuals and families can build from. Once our clients’ housing needs are met, they can focus more on their health and well-being, pursue more education or job training, and further their goal of achieving economic independence. We are inspired in our work by seeing, first hand, how the housing opportunities and services we provide have helped people set out on their own path towards self-sufficiency.
